PrizePicks has launched PrizePicks Packs, a digital trading card product that lets users purchase mystery packs and reveal physical sports or Pokémon cards, with the option to sell them back for cash or request delivery.
Announced on October 21, the product is available across all 50 US states and Washington, D.C., according to PrizePicks. It brings a pack-opening format into the same app and account balance used for the company's sports picks product.
Packs Range From $1 to $2,500
Users can choose basketball, football or Pokémon packs across nine price tiers, starting at $1 and reaching $2,500. Each opening reveals one real trading card held in storage. Before purchasing, users can review the possible value ranges and published pull probabilities.
After opening a pack, customers can sell the card back to PrizePicks for 100% of its stated fair market value or have the physical card shipped to them for a fee. Cards kept in the in-app Locker are automatically sold after three days if shipping is not requested. Sellback proceeds return to the shared PrizePicks balance and can be withdrawn or used for more packs or sports picks.
Pack Openings Move Into Sports Betting Apps
PrizePicks joins a growing group of sports and gaming platforms adopting digital card openings. Fantasy sports competitor Underdog introduced its own Rips product in September, while Coinbase has also signaled plans to enter the category.
The format gives existing platforms another product to market to their users: a low entry price, randomized reveals and a physical collectible attached to every outcome. PrizePicks' shared wallet and cross-product missions also create a direct link between pack openings and its established sports picks business.
The launch raises a broader question about where digital collectibles sit alongside gambling products. PrizePicks describes Packs as a collectibles experience and says it has introduced age restrictions, deposit limits and self-exclusion tools. The company told Barron's that it considers the product closer to e-commerce than gambling, while acknowledging the need for consumer safeguards.
