BetHog Confirms $HOG Airdrop Cancelled Following Casino Shutdown

BetHog has officially confirmed that its long promoted $HOG token airdrop will not take place following the closure of the crypto casino, ending months of speculation from players who accumulated millions of allocation points in anticipation of the distribution.
The confirmation came in a direct statement to Gambling Lore from founder Nigel Eccles following BetHog's closure on July 30. Eccles said the casino was being wound down after failing to achieve profitability, with the team now focused on Sentient Studios, an AI dealer technology company built around Sunny, the AI-powered live dealer that became BetHog's most popular feature.
While the shutdown announcement instructed players to withdraw their balances before August 31, it made no mention of the future of the $HOG token despite 61% of the airdrop allocation already having been distributed to players.
Months of Play Built Around the Airdrop
BetHog marketed $HOG as the native token of its ecosystem, describing future utility including staking opportunities, exclusive betting promotions, and a share of the platform's net gaming revenue.
Players earned allocations by accumulating points, primarily through wagering, with 25% of the token's total supply reserved for the community airdrop. For many users, the token became a major incentive to continue playing.
One player, who finished first on the leaderboard with 94.2 million points, told Gambling Lore they wagered approximately $15 million over the course of a year largely because of the promised token distribution.
"Over a year, I was one of the top players. I wagered roughly $15 million. I was top spot on the airdrop leaderboard with 94.2 million points."
The player said they received no communication regarding the future of the airdrop following the shutdown announcement.
"I feel left in the dark and scammed. I wagered hard for these points and spent a lot of time with the focus of eventually getting a huge airdrop. It was the primary reason I played at BetHog."
Founder: "There Won't Be an Airdrop"
When Gambling Lore asked BetHog about the future of the token, founder Nigel Eccles said the company has been communicating regularly with players but acknowledged the concerns stem from the outcome rather than a lack of updates.
"Firstly we have been in constant and regular communication with all our players since we announced the shutdown. I think the principal complaint is what the message is, not the lack of communication."
Eccles confirmed that the airdrop has been cancelled because the underlying platform is no longer operating.
"As announced we are shutting BetHog down. The reason is that BetHog has failed to achieve profitability and the team are therefore switching focus to Sentient Studios. As BetHog is shutting there won't be an airdrop. Even if we were to do an airdrop it is unclear that $HOG tokens would have any value anyway."
The statement is the first direct confirmation that players' accumulated allocation points will not convert into tokens.
From Casino to AI Technology
The closure reflects a broader strategic pivot rather than an attempt to continue operating under a different brand.
According to the founders, player engagement increasingly centered around Sunny rather than BetHog's traditional casino offering. Instead of continuing to operate a gambling platform, the team has chosen to focus exclusively on developing AI dealer technology through Sentient Studios.
For players that strategic shift also marks the end of the $HOG ecosystem they spent months contributing toward.
While BetHog says the token would likely have had little value without an operating platform, players who accumulated points did so based on the expectation that the promised token generation event would eventually occur. With the founder now confirming that no airdrop will take place, that chapter has officially come to an end. Leaving players with allocation points that no longer carry any value after millions were wagered.
