Stake Announces Alberta Launch as Regulated Expansion Grows

Stake co-founder Ed Craven has announced an upcoming launch in Alberta, Canada, adding another locally regulated operation to a brand long associated with offshore crypto gambling.

In the X announcement, Eddie Craven named Denmark, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Curaçao as part of Stake’s growing regulatory footprint. Alberta extends that expansion into Canadian provincial licensing, where market access depends on local approval rather than the international site’s Curaçao licence.

    Alberta launch awaits final steps

Craven’s X post states Oct 11, 2026 as the launch date. Stake’s separate press release published by iGaming News targets Oct 12, 2026, subject to executing an operating agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. The two announcements therefore give different dates, and the launch remains conditional.

Alberta’s government says the province’s regulated online gambling market opened in July. The framework gives private operators a route out of the grey market, with requirements covering player protection, advertising and centralized self-exclusion. AGLC regulates the market, while the Alberta iGaming Corporation oversees its commercial operation.

Building local operations around a global brand

The expansion builds on changes already visible elsewhere in Stake’s business. Denmark’s gambling regulator lists Stake Denmark A/S as licensed for both online casino and betting, with stake.dk among its approved domains.

In Colombia, Stake says it entered through the acquisition of Betfair Colombia and its licence. Its local website identifies Stake Colombia SAS as the operator under a concession from Coljuegos. These are country-specific businesses operating under local permissions, giving the brand a different route to customers than its international casino.

Peru offers another example of how the product is being adapted. Stake’s local help centre says its Peruvian operation moved onto the company’s global platform at the start of October while remaining supervised by MINCETUR. Identity verification is required before play, and existing self-exclusions are carried across.

The result is a strategy built around using Stake’s local adapted platform and brand across separate regulated operations. The experience can become more consistent across countries while account requirements, payments and player protections remain tied to each market.

    Expansion beyond the offshore model

Stake’s international site continues to operate under a Curaçao Gaming Authority licence. The locally licensed expansion sits alongside that business, broadening how the company reaches players rather than replacing the international operation outright.

For Stake, Alberta is another step toward turning global recognition into local market access. The wider shift is from a brand known primarily for its offshore crypto casino into one competing through a growing network of locally authorized businesses.
