Coinbase Announces Physical Card Backed Pack Openings

Coinbase is preparing to enter the online card pack opening market, announcing a mobile experience backed by physical collectibles in a September 28 post on X.

The company says each pull will correspond to a real card, with users able to vault it or request delivery. The preview brings the pack-opening format to Coinbase’s audience as collectible card products find more routes into crypto platforms.

Digital Packs, Physical Cards

“Rip packs on your phone,” Coinbase wrote. “Every pull backed by a real, physical card. Vault it or ship it.”

The announced model combines a digital opening with ownership of a physical collectible. Users can reveal their card on a phone and decide whether to take possession of it or leave it vaulted.

Coinbase has previewed the experience rather than announced general availability. Pricing, pack odds and eligibility will be key details to establish as the rollout develops.

Pack Openings Reach Crypto Platforms

The format already has a presence in the crypto ecosystem. Tradible, a trading-card marketplace built on Base, offers digital pack openings alongside card trading and instant buyback offers. Jupiter has also promoted mobile access to its Gacha pack-opening product.

Coinbase’s announcement points to a wider distribution opportunity for the category: pack openings can reach users through platforms they already use for crypto, alongside dedicated collectibles sites.

For existing pack site operators, that could bring both more attention to the format and competition for the same collectors.
